Yale Seminar

Mary gave a seminar at Yale University on November 14th hosted by the Dept. of Biomedical Engineering and Systems Biology Institute. Thanks so much to Kathryn Miller-Jensen and Andre Levenchko for being such great hosts!

Welcome, Joydeb!

We are happy to welcome Joydeb Sinha to the lab as a new PhD student!

Congratulations, Michael!

Congratulations, Michael, on receiving an “Exceptional” rating and the highest possible Impact Score (10) on your NIH NRSA F31 Predoctoral Fellowship application: “Connecting early signaling dynamics to fat cell differentiation using fluorescent biosensors and single cell imaging”. Great job!

Successful launch of Biological Imaging Class!

This spring Mary, Jon Mulholland, Andrew Olson, and Michael Zhao developed and taught CSB222: Biological Light Microscopy, a 6-week intensive laboratory and discussion class geared to give participants the theoretical and practical knowledge to utilize emerging imaging technologies based on light microscopy. Topics included microscope optics, resolution limits, Köhler illumination, confocal microscopy, fluorescence, two-photon, TIRF, FRET, photobleaching, super-resolution (SIM, STED, STORM/PALM), and live-cell imaging. Students enjoyed plenty of hands-on time using the very nice, high-end microscope systems in the Stanford core facilities. We received very positive reviews on our class from the students who took it this spring, and as a result, we will be teaching the class again this fall. Please see the syllabus for more information: Microscopy_syllabus_Fall2017.

Congratulations, Brooks!

Congratulations, Brooks, on being awarded an NIH NRSA F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship for your proposal “Understanding control of adipogenesis by the dynamics of cAMP” and receiving the highest possible Impact Score and a rating of “Exceptional” on it!

1st Latin American Workshop and Conference on Systems Biology

Mary was very fortunate to be invited to participate in the 1st Latin American Workshop and Conference on Systems Biology held in Mexico City from May 2-5, 2017 (https://latamsysbio2017.wordpress.com/). It was a wonderful opportunity to hear great science and to meet researchers from Mexico, Argentina, Columbia, and other countries in Latin America. Looking forward to the next meeting which will be in Bogata, Columbia in 2019!!

Welcome, Atefeh!

We are happy to welcome Atefeh Rabiee to the lab as a Novo Nordisk Foundation/Stanford Bio-X Postdoctoral Fellow!

Keystone Diabetes/Obesity/Adipose Tissue Symposium

Devon, Stefan, and Mary attended the Keystone Diabetes/Obesity/AdiposeTissue Symposium in Keystone, Colorado from January 22-26, 2017. Devon and Stefan presented posters, and Mary gave a talk. It was great meeting scientifically and also we were fortunate to be there when Colorado had record snowfall and awesome ski conditions!
